I develop electronics hardware. When I started in the job, I took over the responsibility for our Alpha Lubricator system, which lubricates the cylinder liners and pistons on an engine. We are about to conduct a six-month service test on a vessel, and if the system passes the tests it is ready for release. The time schedule is slightly delayed, but the company’s attitude is that it is more important to ensure an excellent product. So now I am slowly getting involved in another project, which is an entirely new technical discipline for me that involves programming of FPGA. In consultation with my manager, I asked to work on this project, as it has a strong appeal to me. And the timing is really good.

It is challenging to work with new technical areas, and I am looking very much forward to it. In addition, it is really exciting to participate in testing the products in ways that I had not thought of initially. I am fresh from school, so it is interesting to see how things are done in practice. For example, we conducted vibration tests on the Alpha Lubricator at a testing institute in Sweden, and that was a very learning experience.

Well, there are often notes pinned on the internal notice board informing about employees celebrating 20, 30 or 40 years with the company. That tells me that it is a workplace worth staying with. I assume that these people have stayed with the company for so many years, because they have been allowed to develop professionally as well as personally. That is exactly what I am looking for in a company. And this has also been my experience so far. The company is very positive on further education of the employees. What is more, I like my colleagues, and I work in a good department with 50-60 colleagues, incl. consultants. Our internal communication is positive, and people act professionally. But there is also room for fun, e.g. in our company sports club. I have absolutely no regrets about starting at MAN Diesel & Turbo, and I can highly recommend others to seek a career with the company.
