19.05.2003 - In 1999, MAN Turbo received an order from a company in the Netherlands to supply machinery trains for an ethylene plant. The order included four centrifugal compressors (crude gas compressors) driven by steam turbine (three condensing steam turbines, one backpressure steam turbine). A propylene compressor and an ethylene compressor, likewise centrifugal, completed the order. The plant has been operating successfully since 2002.

Ethylene is obtained from crude gas in petrochemical processes and forms the basis for many products in the plastics industry. Ethylene plants are made up of a primary cycle and a refrigeration cycle. The raw materials are cracked in the pipe furnace of the ethylene plant and broken down into the main product and other basic materials during the subsequent distillation processes.
MAN Turbo manufactures and supplies the prime movers and working machines for all four stages in the ethylene recovery process. References for 134 casings are available to date in this regard.
