06.06.2003 - In 2000, a customer in Brazil ordered a gas lift module, inclusive of installation, for a platform in the Campos Basin. The customer expressed an interest in a total solution tailored to the space available on the platform. The process conditions together with the dimensions and weight data had to be adhered to precisely. There was thus a critical requirement to coordinate all interfaces.
The compressor, which is driven by an asynchronous motor via a gear unit to increase the speed, is located on the lower level of the two-level module and was commissioned in 2002.

In oil production, the weight of the oil column is reduced by injecting natural gas into the riser of the well hole. The residual pressure existing in the deposit is thus sufficient to raise the oil-gas mixture to the production platform, where any liquids are removed from the attendant gas by means of a separator prior to the compression stage. Following compression, the gas is cooled to the permitted system temperature.

In addition to increasing the crude oil production capacity, surplus gas was used for injection into the well hole, leading in turn to a reduction in the amount of flare gas.
Erection on the platform demonstrates the strengths of the turbocompressor compared with the reciprocating compressors used previously: quiet running and a very low maintenance requirement.
