The Sandvik Group with head office in Sweden and approximately 50,000 employees consists of three Business areas: “Tooling”, “Mining & Construction” and “Materials Technology”.
Sandvik Materials Technology is a world leading developer and producer of advanced alloys and ceramic materials, serving a broad range of industries with innovative products and system solutions. Sandvik furthermore is the producer of specialty alloy powder and is developing and marketing P/M products produced on the basis of the HIP technology.
The laboratory facilities at Sandvik Materials Technology are by far the most extensive within its field in Sweden and include a full range of electron microscopes, a number of advanced optical microscopes for microstructure characterization. The laboratories further include various test equipment for mechanical testing and evaluation of physical properties. Most important also a Laboratory HIP-furnace and a pilot powder production plant is a part of the equipment at Sandvik Materials Technology.
The laboratories are manned with highly skilled personnel and researchers being involved in various development projects mainly on stainless steel and specialty alloys. Part of the development work is based on thermodynamic and phase-diagram calculations by applying the ThermoCalc software.
Sandvik Powdermet (SP) is a group within Sandvik Materials Technology, and has been involved with the development and marketing of P/M HIP-processed components for decades gaining considerable experience within this field. SP is one of the leading producer of both near net shape components and components with complicated geometries, e.g. P/M HIP produced Duplex Stainless Steel multi-phase swivels and large manifolds for oil and gas transportation both applied at off-shore well heads. SP is the market leader within the design and production of the P/M HIP-capsule technology for both monolithic and compound components with the ability to simulate capsule shrinkage by numerical calculations.
