Beside all efforts for renewable energy sources, the world still needs oil and gas. Energy companies are making every effort to advance production of these hydrocarbons, making it safer, more reliable and more energy-efficient.
One important aim is subsea production. While oil and gas is extracted from subsea wells, production facilities are moving more and more from ships and platforms down to the seabed itself. The harsh and demanding conditions under water pose new challenges.
In view of these challenges, Norwegian Statoil, a leading energy company, recently announced a breakthrough for the whole industry: The world's first subsea gas compression station going online in the North Sea, in a field called Åsgard.
