Wayne Jones, OBE, Chief Sales Officer and Member of the Executive Board at MAN Diesel & Turbo, will conclude his term as President of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) by the end of 2017. Jones originally took on the role in October 2015 for, initially, a one-year term, which was subsequently extended to the maximum two years.
The presidency culminated on a very successful note with, on 30 November 2017, GMCC being awarded the great honour of Chamber of the Year 2017 at the British Chamber of Commerce Awards in London, England. This great accomplishment was a first in the chamber’s long history that dates back to 1794.
During his term, Jones campaigned tirelessly on his three presidential themes: International Trade, Engineering & Manufacturing, and Young Talents, which spawned many initiatives. These include the first ever Engineering & Manufacturing Summit, which will take place during 2018, as well as strategic relationship building with senior government ministers to create post-Brexit concepts. Furthermore, significant progress was made in increasing the awareness of apprenticeships and the importance of the industrial sector among young people. Jones was also instrumental in connecting the GMCC with other international counterparts in Greece and Germany.
Clive Memmott, Chief Executive Officer of GMCC said: “Wayne has been an outstanding President and provided vision, pragmatism and leadership to both the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and the business community generally. He has promoted his Presidential themes with great vigour and skill and I look forward to him continuing to do this in the role of Past President as a key member of our Presidential Team and Board. Wayne has the unique ability to communicate and engage with people at all levels in business and can understand the very different issues they face working for the huge, and diverse, range of organisations in a modern economy”.
